It was a magnificent morning. Mr. and Mrs. Owl watched as the sun rose slowly over the deep woods. There was dew on all the branches, leaves, and grasses, and the woods became a kaleidoscope of colors. All the colors of the rainbow were there for them to admire.

“Isn’t this beautiful? I’m so happy I live in the deep woods.” She put her head on the shoulder of Mr. Owl and cuddled close to him as he put his wing around her.

“Who is that coming down the path so early in the morning?” asked Mr. Owl.

Mrs. Owl quickly raised her head and through the mist of the morning saw something hopping toward them.

“I think that is Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit. We haven’t seen them for some time now. I hope everything is okay.”

“Hello there!” said Mr. Owl. “You are out early this morning.”

“Hello back to you,” said Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit. “We got up early to see you. We have a question to ask, and we know you are the wisest animals in the deep woods.”

Mr. Owl noticed that Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit were not alone. In back of them were five of the cutest little bunnies that Mr. and Mrs. Owl had ever seen.

“Mrs. Rabbit, you came to show us your new family! They are precious,” exclaimed Mrs. Owl.

“Let’s see,” said Mrs. Owl as she began to count the little rabbits, “there is one, two, three, four, and five!”

Acting very surprised and excited, Mrs. Rabbit remarked, “That’s right! That’s right!”

Mrs. Owl couldn’t quite understand why she was so excited. All she did was count her children.

Why do you think Mrs. Rabbit was so excited?
